Sick of Work?
Chris Guillebeau has an interesting blog called “The Art of Nonconformity“
Consistent with the site name , I found this post entitled How to Retire the Day After Tomorrow
He says that you can plan to retire in approximately 36 hours! Without doing anything drastic, of course!!
Hate drastic.
He goes on to admit, “Most of us will opt for partial retirement, and that’s because most of us are not working at jobs we completely hate. We just don’t like certain parts of them, and those tasks are what we need to retire from”.
To work out what you really want he suggests you ask yourself the following 5 questions:
Do I need retirement, or just a break?
Do I need a different job, or different circumstances?
Would it help if I could set my own hours?
What do I really enjoy doing at work?
What do I really hate doing at work?
Helpful, as retirement often isn’t the answer unless you are well-prepared and have something in your life to replace work.

Don’t Wait for the Lights to Turn Green

A lot of people don’t get anywhere in life, as they are always waiting for ‘all the lights to turn green’. They want to have everything perfectly planned out before they make a move and they end up doing nothing. It’s called analysis paralysis.
If you are really serious about doing something you should just do it. Take action. I’m not talking about being rash…take a more measured approach but do it anyway.
Zoe Westhof of “Essential Prose” advocates a “Ready, Aim, Fire” strategy in her interesting blog post titled “Taking the Plunge: Why Too Much Planning is for Wimps.”
I must admit this is how I approach life. I make instant decisions, much to my husband’s consternation, leaving the ‘pro-ing and conning’ to him. He comes to the same conclusion as me a couple of days later!
It is necessary to believe in yourself and listen to your intuition, follow your feelings. Concentrate on the desired outcome. Too many people analyse something to death; they worry and sweat about it; trying to work out all the steps along the way, and then they lose the opportunity.
If it feels good, take the bull by the horns and do it! Believe in yourself. Life is all about experience and challenge.

Hello Visitors
Today I’m going to take part in an experiment…
I’m registering this blog on Chuck Westbrooks Blog. He’s had a great idea, namely “Ending the Tragedy of Under Appreciated Blogs”. Lots of people are getting involved…it should be fun. I’m not sure what is going to happen exactly. I don’t think Chuck does either.
Anyway, hello to all (any) visitors and I hope you will find my blog about ‘financial freedom and other topics’ interesting. Please leave me a comment if you do.
I also hope that I’ll find lots of great new blogs to read. From the response Darren Rowse, from Problogger, had from a similar type of experiment recently, and from the quick squizz I had down Chuck’s registration list, I’m sure I will!

Wake Up and Dream

Discover your lost dreams!
Have you ever stopped to think of how many dreams you have lost or given up on since those starry-eyed teenage years?
Here is a quick way to find out. Done properly this exercise will extract information from deep down. Your subconscious mind is where your real power lies.
1. Find a quiet place to sit.
2. Take a piece of blank paper and write the following question at the top:
“If you were not limited by money, time, beliefs, etc what would you really like to have, do or create in your life?”
Imagine that you have met a genie and the genie has given you one wish (what happened to the other two?!)….that you’ll be granted whatever you write down.
3. Give yourself 3 minutes and write everything down that comes into your mind. Try to write freely and not think of how, or if you could achieve something. Don’t be afraid to dream big.
You may find after writing down the first six or so goals your mind goes blank. Persevere. This is when you are starting to access your subconscious mind.
After you finish, review your list. Which dreams are really really important to you? There are probably about 4-5 that fall into this category. You may be surprised at all the dreams you have forgotten.
Once you have identified these then you have a starting point of what you wish to manifest in your life.
Just as well Sheep Can’t Fly!

A few years ago now my husband attended a ‘Masters of Business’ seminar in Auckland, and related to me the following amusing incident:
There were several high-powered speakers there including Mikhail Gorbachev, Norman Schwarzkopf , Al (Chainsaw)Dunlop and Kevin Trudeau amongst others.
Mid-way through the day, whilst Kevin Trudeau was speaking, a sparrow could be seen flying around the stage, tweeting.
Mikhail was next up and halfway through his presentation the bird seemed to be tiring and, looking for a good spot to rest, it spotted Mikhail’s shiny dome and landed on it, much to the audience’s hilarity!
Rather surprised, but without missing a beat Mikhail said (through his translator), “just as well it wasn’t a sheep”!
Strange but true!!!
Rich and Bored
Here is a snippet of an article that I spotted in the Sunday edition of the NZ Herald .
“I got so bored the other day I thought maybe I could walk from Cape Reinga to Southland, just for something to do.”
Isn’t this a common scenario? Money obviously isn’t the answer. You must have a purpose, a passion to feel fulfilled. These lotto winners are going through the same transition that many recent retirees do. They are recent retirees, I guess!
What would you do if you won a lot of money (apart from the usual new house, new car etc)? Would you carry on working? Or perhaps quit your job and walk the length of the country to raise money for child cancer or some other worthy cause? Do you think it would change you?
The Life of a CEO
I am the Chief Executive Officer (aka The Boss) of our life.
Someone had to do it. If the job was left un-manned (or un-womanned in this case) who knows where we would end up. To get where you want to go you must have a plan; or you’ll be like a ship without a rudder, or a destination for that matter. No maps either.
Anyway, our goal is financial freedom.
As I am in charge of the overall plan, you won’t find gardening tips or ideas for school lunches here; I can’t knit or sew and I hate housework (Monty Python’s, ” You’re not even a proper woman!” springs to mind. You had to be there).
So, expect some gen on what we did, the books we read and other interesting stuff we learnt along the road, including motivational quotes. I look forward to your comments..
Are You the CEO of Your Own Life ?
