Beauty and terror
Just keep going
No feeling is final”

“Happiness” ~ Helen Keller

Be happy. Talk happiness.
Happiness calls out responsive gladness in others.
There is enough sadness in the world without yours….
never doubt the excellence and permanence of what is yet to be.
Join the great company of those
who make the barren places of life fruitful with kindness….
Your success and happiness lie in you….
The great enduring realities are love and service….
Resolve to keep happy
and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.”

- Helen Keller

We find a good sing at the top of our voices, does wonders:

“Who Let the Dogs Out” is a great song, along with “I get Knocked Down but I Get up Again” by Chumbawamba.

Our current favourite to sing along to is “Red, Red Wine” by Neil Diamond. Turn up the volume!!

What makes you feel happy?

How to Feel Happy at Least 80% of the Time

Happiness

BANISH ALL NEGATIVE THOUGHTS before they can take hold.

This is the number one reason I manage to feel pretty happy at least 80% of the time. The tactic is not to get yourself in an unhappy state in the first place.

If a violent story comes on the TV News, I mute it! If I see disturbing images, I turn away! If my friends are bitching and moaning about all the things they hate, or exchanging horror stories, I change the subject (or leave the room!). I never ponder upsetting scenarios…especially ones that don’t exist!

DO NOT watch, read, listen to or think about anything that gets you down. You don’t have to be ignorant, but don’t take all that negative stuff on board. Sift it if you have to, then dump it.

If banishing unhappy thoughts isn’t appropriate or possible, you can change them instead. Recently my father had a heart attack; of course I wanted to think of him, so I changed the way my thoughts went. I imagined him saying  “You’re not going to get rid of me that easily” and filled my head with a vision of him 100% well again.
A week or so later, after a successful operation, I called him and he said those exact words!

So, what about the other 20% of the time? I believe it’s close to impossible to be happy all of the time (with the exception of a few very advanced monks who live in caves) because, let’s face it, we still face plenty of adversity in our day to day lives. Recognise the adversity for what it is. It will pass.

Remember, you get what you focus on, so the more unhappy thoughts you have the more you get. Mentally, put up a “NEGATIVE THOUGHTS NOT WELCOME”  sign and you will be amazed at how much better you feel!

“Steps to Happiness” ~ Poem

Everybody Knows,
You can’t be all things to all people.
You can’t do all things at once.
You can’t do all things equally well.
You can’t do all things better than everyone else.
Your humanity is showing just like everyone else’s.

So,
You have to find out who you are, and be that.
You have to decide what comes first, and do that.
You have to discover your strengths, and use them.
You have to learn not to compete with others, because no one else is in the contest of “being you”.

Then,
You will have learned to accept your own uniqueness.
You will have learned to set priorities and make decisions.
You will have learned to live with your limitations.
You will have learned to give yourself the respect that is due.
And you’ll be a most vital mortal.

Believe,
That you are a wonderful, unique person.
That you are a once-in all history event.
That it’s more than a right, it’s your duty, to be who you are.
That life is not a problem to solve, but a gift to cherish.
And you’ll be able to stay one up on what used to get you down.

We either make ourselves miserable

Or happy and strong

The amount of work is the same”

Be Happy NOW

“Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans”.

Wise words from John Lennon.

Life is happening now! The time to be happy is now. There is no other time; yesterday has gone and tomorrow isn’t here yet. We live in an eternal moment of NOW.

So many people continually postpone happiness. We tell ourselves that we’ll be happy when we get a promotion/get married/have a baby…whatever. We tell ourselves that one day we’ll get a new car or go on an overseas holiday; then we’ll be happy. It goes on.

Human life is full of challenges. It’s best to accept that and be happy anyway. Happiness attracts happiness, by the Law of Attraction!

Have a wonderful, happy day!

How To Be Truly Happy

Use the unlimited power of your mind…

“Once you realize that your mind is constantly creating every experience in your life, you will usually have feelings of complete empowerment and overwhelming fear. Why? Because taking complete responsibility for one’s life has that affect on people. On one hand, you now understand that you can recreate your life anyway you choose to.

Riches? Power? Success? Abundance? Love? You can have it all…”

Words of Greatness

Jesus statueIt’s always interesting to read about the great teachers in life, and to realize that much of what they had to say is eternal and still applies today. Think of Jesus, Buddha, Ghandi, Einstein…the list goes on.

I just read an excellent post written by Jonathan Mead of The Illuminated Mind.

It’s titled: “7 Lessons From the World’s Greatest Minds” and it includes the above teachers.

One of the reasons I think it’s so good is because Jonathan has included action steps, so you can start incorporating them into your life immediately. Of course, there are many more great lessons, but these seven are a good start.

The Lessons

1. Realizing Your Dreams
2. Overcoming Fear
3. Intention and Desire
4. Happiness
5. Self Acceptance
6. Appreciation and Gratitude
7. The Art of Simplicity

Mastering these will make a tremendous difference to your life!

Groucho Marx on Happiness

I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Will Money Bring Happiness?

buddhaThe $60,000 question. Will money and financial freedom make you happy?

The Buddha said, “There is no way to Happiness, Happiness is The Way“.

Nothing, of itself, can be guaranteed to make you happy. Even the euphoria of winning the lottery would be tempered if your dog had just been run over.
So, you must be happy anyway, then you can focus your positivity on worthwhile goals to obtain what you want out of life.

I believe that, to be happy, you must follow your passion. It’s not about money. If you’re passionate about what you do you will be driven by inner happiness and your dreams will manifest into your outer world.

An interesting book on finding your passion is “The Passion Plan” by Richard Chang.
